Morning Worship

MORNING WORSHIP SERVICE
April 28, 2024

Psalm 122:1
“I was glad when they said to me,
‘Let us go into the house of the Lord.’”

OUR PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP

Prelude – As the instruments play, let us prepare ourselves for worship as we enter into the presence of the Lord.  Take time to read the “Puritan Prayer” on the back of the bulletin in preparation for worship, and the Silent Prayer here in the order of worship.

Silent Prayer
    O Lord, from whom all good things come;
    Grant to us your humble servants,
        that by your holy inspiration we may think those things that are good,
          and by your merciful guiding may do them;
              through our Lord Jesus Christ.    Amen

OUR ADORATION OF GOD

Call to Worship – Psalm 100:1-2
    Leader:  Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!
                    Serve the Lord with gladness;
                       come before His presence with singing.
    Congregation:  Know that the LORD, He is God!
                                    It is He who made us, and not we ourselves;
                                    we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.
    All:  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving and into his courts with praise.

OUR PROCLAMATION OF FAITH

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day, he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand
of God the Father, the Almighty.
From there, he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy, universal church, the communion of the saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.  Amen.

Hymn
55 – To God Be the Glory

Reading of the Heidelberg Catechism Question 45

45 Q.  How does Christ’s resurrection benefit us?
     A.  First, by His resurrection He has overcome death,
           so that He might make us share

in the righteousness He won for us by His death.

Second, by His power we too are already now resurrected to a new life.

Third, Christ’s resurrection is a guarantee of our glorious resurrection.

OUR CONFESSION OF SIN AND THE MEANS OF GRACE

Pastoral Prayer

Offering

Psalter Reading–Psalm 25:1-11
A Psalm of David.

To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul.

O my God, I trust in You;
let me not be ashamed;
let not my enemies triumph over me.

Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed;
let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause.

Show me Your ways, O LORD;
teach me Your paths.

Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
for You are the God of my salvation;
on You I wait all the day.

Remember, O LORD, Your tender mercies
and Your lovingkindnesses, for they are from of old.

Do not remember the sins of my youth,
nor my transgressions; according to Your mercy remember me,
for Your goodness’ sake, O LORD.

Good and upright is the LORD;
Therefore He teaches sinners in the way.

The humble He guides in justice,
and the humble He teaches His way.

All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth,
   to such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.

For Your name’s sake, O LORD,
    pardon my iniquity, for it is great.
